Sandboarding is a board sport that is carried out in desert, which resembles snowboarding. One can stand freely on the board or can strap their feet to the board. It can be practised either by standing, sitting or lying down. It is practised on sleds, surfboards or skateboard deck. It is prevalent in deserts or coastal areas that has beach dunes.
Sandboards that are currently available are suitable for both dry and wet sands. The board bottom is waxed before use to ensure smooth gliding. Initially one has to push oneself and the rest the board glides its own.
Its best to practise sandboarding in the evening. Mornings can be dangerous when the sun is hot, as it can lead to dehydration. As sandboarding is an adventurous sport, usage of personal protection equipment like googles, helmets and knee pads are recommended.
